JAMES LAIDLAW HENDERSON August 26, 1949 - April 24, 2007 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved brother Jamie in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Boniface Hospital. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sisters, Elaine Leney (Dennis) and Donna Rivas, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours. Jamie was predeceased by his father James Henderson in 1990 and his mother Jessie Henderson in 2005. Jamie loved life, people and God's creatures great and small. A thoughtful and caring man, Jamie touched the lives of all who knew him. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Family, friends and neighours were the beneficiaries of many of his carpentry, landscaping, or retrofit projects and his culinary skills were enjoyed by many. Growing up in St. James, Jamie was active in hockey, track, Key Club and many school activities. One of his proudest accomplishments was earning his pilots license on a War Pilots Flying Scholarship through air cadets (he was first in his class to solo). Over the years, Jamie was a Fire Arms Safety Instructor, member of the Masonic Red River Lodge, #4 St. James Legion and the Sioux Lookout Legion. The past few years, Jamie spent many relaxing hours at the lake in Sioux Lookout, ON fishing (a new found passion), feeding the ducks, varnishing the boat, and otherwise keeping busy. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at CancerCare Manitoba, Health Science Centre and the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for the excellent care and compassion you showed Jamie and his family. A special thanks to the neighbours for their unfailing support and love. In keeping with Jamie's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. If desired, expressions of sympathy may be made in Jamie's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, Room ON1160, 675 McDermot, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Elaine and Donna, I regret to hear that Jamie passed away from cancer. Mark just phoned me to let me know. It brought back memories of Lac Lu, skiing, and Webb's Beach. My childhood friends are far away geographically but not far from my thoughts. My sincere sympathies to you and your family.
