ANNE UHRYN (nee SHENKARCHUK) Anne (Nanny) was born March 12, 1912 in Komarno, MB to Joseph and Justina Szynkarchyk. She is survived by her daughter Alma, grandson Bill, her brother Tom Shand (Marlene), nephews, Alvin (Cathy) Macatavish, Dr. Sam (Marge) Hrushovetz, Bill Hrushovetz and Lesley Shand. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary, Alma and Lena and by her brothers, Nick, John and Mike. Anne spent the early part of her life growing up on a farm near Birds Hill. She cared for her sister Lena during the last years of Lena's life, then went to Toronto and later St. Catherines, Ontario where she worked as a seamstress. She met and married Nick Uhryn and they had one daughter (Alma). They returned to Winnipeg in 1950. Anne and Nick separated in 1952 and she raised her daughter on her own from then on. Anne was active in church groups for many years and after her retirement became active with several seniors groups and discovered the joys of travelling. She travelled extensively over all of Canada and the US with her last trip being a road trip to Edmonton at the age of 85. She has always been talented in various types of crafts and spent much of her free time making crafts that she donated to her various groups for teas and fundraisers. Anne always valued education and would have liked to become a nurse herself, but circumstances prevented that, so she was happy to encourage her daughter in her endeavours. She was also very proud of her grandson Bill and his artistic talents and career as a Graphic Designer. Bill was very much the joy of her life and she was always happy to babysit when he was younger or to have pizza and movie nights as he got older. She loved going out for dinner and being with her family, especially for the holidays with Alvin and his family. We will sorely miss the smile she always had on her face, her lively personality, and the joy of living life to the fullest that she spread to those around her. Memorial Service to be held Tuesday, May 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manitoba Cancer Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway~783-7211 www.thomsonfuneralhome.com
