Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLINWOOD EDGAR ASHCROFT DAVIES Linwood passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital on Sunday, May 20, 2007, at 86 years of age. Remaining to forever cherish Linwood's memory are his beloved wife of 61 years, Christina; daughters, Dyllys Buley (Grant) and Bronwyn Nairne; son Ross Davies (Helaine); grandchildren, Cal and Kirk Nairne of Vancouver, Scott Buley (Nicola) of Australia, Tara McDonald (Ryan) and Kristi Davies of Winnipeg; great-grandsons, Jaedyn Davies and Jack McDonald; and several nieces and nephews. Linwood was born on November 5, 1920, at the family home on Ross Avenue to Maurice and Mary (Polly) Davies. He was the last surviving of eight children. In 1941, Lin enlisted in the RCAF. He spent the war years as a wireless operator/air-gunner, first at Ucluelet on Vancouver Island flying submarine patrol. He later flew coastal command on the East Coast where he was promoted to Warrant Officer First Class followed by Pilot Officer and Flying Officer. Linwood made some wonderful friendships in the air force and still kept in touch with his buddies . At the end of the Second World War, Lin returned to Winnipeg where he met Chris, the love of his life. They were married on October 16, 1945. He enrolled in Engineering at the University of Manitoba, and took what was supposed to be a temporary position with Ashdown's as a commercial refrigeration and air conditioning sales associate. He gained a well-deserved reputation as hardworking, talented, and honest and was consistently the national sales leader. His employment at Ashdown's was followed by twenty years with KeepRite where he rose to the position of Sales Manager for Western Canada, retiring in 1985. During his career, Linwood maintained the respect and friendship of his customers and associates. In 1951, the family moved to Lyle Street in St. James where Lin and Chris spent 55 very happy years. Linwood was a wonderful husband and father. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and still lived life to the fullest. He was very involved in hockey from Peewee right through to the St. James Canadians, and enjoyed many years curling, golfing, fishing, duck hunting, and attending Bomber games. He especially loved time at the lake , first Loni Beach, followed by Twin Beaches which he built, and, finally, Bird Lake. He was a Past President of Assiniboine Golf Club, a longtime member of the St. James Legion, and an honorary member of the McKinnon Guild in recognition of his hard work building and repairing on their behalf. Lin and Chris enjoyed numerous trips over the years, including Mexico, Great Britain, Hawaii, Texas, San Diego, Europe, Alaska, and their condo at Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. In summing up Linwood's life, we would like to say that he was a very special man. He had an incredibly imaginative mind and the ability to come up with ingenious solutions to the most difficult challenges. His sense of humor, honesty, generosity, intelligence, curiosity, and love of life were all qualities that made him an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. In compliance with Linwood's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. The family will have a private celebration of his life at a later date. Special thanks to Vic and Evelyn Gordon. A.V., as Lin called him, has been a wonderful, caring friend since they flew together at Ucluelet in 1941.
