ROBERT ARTHUR STEGGLES Robert Arthur Steggles died peacefully at the home of his son Don on Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Bob is survived by his wife Viola; sons, William (Sherri) and Donald (Maryanne); two grandchildren, Amber and Ashley; one sister Margaret Rose Holt (Jim); sister-in-law and brother-in-law Alma and Tommy Carrabre (Beatty); sister in law Edna Beatty and brother in law Jack Beatty. He was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Thomas Albert Steggles; his brother Albert Steggles; his sister Elizabeth Giles and his grandson William Andrew. Bob was born on July 9, 1926 in London England (Shoreditch). He immigrated to Guenton, Manitoba with his family the following year. When he was 16, the family moved to Winnipeg. As a young man he worked for Parkhill Bedding and later Builder's Millwork. He married Viola May Steggles (Beatty) on July 7,1951. Bob and Vi had a long and happy marriage together and were to celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary in July. Bob started working for the Winnipeg Transit in 1954 where he was to remain until his retirement in 1987. Bob was a skilled woodworker. With a growing family he took great pride in building an addition for the family home on Lorette Avenue where he lived with Viola for 48 years. He also built the family cottage at Hillside Beach, a place of enjoyment for everyone young and old for many summers. He enjoyed bowling, curling, home projects and a good game of cribbage. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends who meant so much to him. We will always remember dad for his commitment to his family. Bob was a loving and devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather. We will greatly miss his gentle ways, his helping hand, infectious laugh and big heart. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Tuesday, May 29, at 12:30 p.m. A private interment will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
