HARRY HANSEN 1915 - 2007 Following a recent hip fracture, Harry died May 25, 2007, at Deer Lodge Centre. He is survived by his wife Lillian; his stepchildren, Darlene and Gen Conte, Heather and Rolly Perreaux, Susan Jorgensen, Wilf and Joyce Jorgensen; son-in-law Pedro Ardiles; grandchildren, Tania (David), Anthony (Jessey), Andrea, Ariel, Amanda, Erin, Wendy (David), Patricia; nieces and nephews, Timothy (Nancy), Ninon (Chester), Therese (Gerald), Richard (Claudette), Irene, Louise, Pauline, Claire, Susan, Karma, John, Catherine, Jennifer; sister/brothers-in-law, Bernice, Gordon (Jane), George, Henry (Jean). Born on June 2, 1915, in Montreal, Harry was the youngest child of Danish immigrants, Harriette and Bernhardt Vilson Hansen. As a young child he lived in Denmark for a few years. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bernhardt and Viggo; and two sisters, Stephanie and Lulu. Harry married his first wife, Marie Jorgensen, of Wallace Bay, NS, on October 4, 1941. They were married for 37 years and had no children. When Harry married Lillian Jorgensen on May 24, 1980, Darlene, Gen, Tania, and Anthony became his instant family. Tania and Anthony spent many hours visiting with their grandpa. His most trusted and valued friend was his daughter, Darlene, who he said gave him the will to live through his many health crises. Before moving to Wallace Bridge, NS, to farm, Harry had been a machinist for Northern Electric and had owned a restaurant in Montreal. He later worked as a gatekeeper for the Windsor Salt Mines in Pugwash, NS, before retiring. The job in which Harry took greatest pride was his Second World War military service. Harry enlisted in August 1942 with the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers. As an armourer in the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade L.A.D., part of the 1st Canadian Division, he saw most of his action on the front lines in the Italian Campaign and later served in France, Germany and Holland. Discharged with the rank of sergeant-at-arms, Harry was awarded the 1939 to 1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, C.V.S.M. and clasp medals in respect of his war service. The family thanks the wonderful staff of 6E, Deer Lodge Centre for their tender and loving care for the past two years, and to Pastor Ferris and Pastor Knutson for their spiritual support. A military funeral officiated by Pastor Knutson will be held at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 637 Buckingham Rd., on June 1 at 1:30 p.m. with reception to follow. Harry will be buried beside his first wife Marie at Wallace Bay Cemetery. A Legion committal service at the graveside will be held June 4 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Harry may be made to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 637 Buckingham Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3R 1B9, or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3.
