Date of Passing: May 28, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRUDE PELLAERS (nee VERNAUS) Peacefully at Red River Place, our Mom and Oma passed away shortly after enjoying supper on May 28, 2007. Gertrude was born in Holland in 1922 and was the second oldest of nine children. During her early years she helped raise the rest of her family along with her parents. In the late thirties she met the love of her life, Hubert, and they were married in 1943. She was happily married for 47 years until Hubert passed away in 1990. During this time they had six children. She was predeceased by her husband Hubert (1990); her son Peter (2004), and her brother Harry (1995). She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Elly (John), Joe (Pat), Harry (Irene), Jules (Diane), and Kitty (Don); daughter-in-law Betty; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two brothers, Joe and Theo, and two sisters, Korry and Fien in Holland, and her brothers, Pete and John and her very close sister Netty in Canada. In 1960, a major change happened in Gertrude and Hubert's life when they left Holland to start a new life in Canada which they grew to love. Gertrude had many qualities which we will never forget. Her greatest love in life was her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved going to the cottage at Wendigo and was excellent at playing cards till 3:00 a.m. and always changing the playing rules as the night progressed. She used to enjoy making all our clothing till such time we would not stand still for the hours of fittings. There are numerous people who made Gertrude's last years comfortable. We would like to thank Dr. Lindenschmidt and the staff at Red River Place. We would especially like to thank Felix for making it possible to extend her stay in her own home as long as possible. Most of all, Joe and Pat, thanks for your caring and taking mom to all her appointments. All others not mentioned, thank you. All 15 of her grandchildren will be active and honorary pallbearers. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 1 at 11:00 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk with Fr. Dado Parrenas and Msgr. Louis McCloskey officiating. Viewing at the church one half hour prior to service. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Blood Services, 777 William Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 3R4 or a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
