Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH FRANK WINSTON It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Wesley Frank Winston on May 28, 2007 at Concordia Hospital, with his family at his side. Joe was born January 23, 1915 in Gallatin, Tennessee, and passed away at the age of 92 in Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his parents, Hart and Ellen Winston and is survived by his wife Clarissa Winston, of 38 years; daughter Robin; grandchildren, Felicia, Jamaal, Lavalle, and Chastina; two great-grandchildren, Terrence and Janelle; niece Amanda Carvery all of Winnipeg; his cousin Edward Anthony of Chicago, Illinois; niece Yvette Anthony, and nephews, Foster Anthony and Edward Anthony Jr. of Chicago. Joe served four years in the United States Army #289th Army Ground Forces Band in the Second World War in the South Pacific. Then after his Honourable Discharge he played music professionally with many name bands around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before coming to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1951. He then worked as a porter on the C.P. Railway until 1978, then transferred to Via Rail where he retired in 1986. Joe made many friends during his years of playing music in and around Winnipeg and his trips between Winnipeg and Vancouver. He also loved fishing with frequent trips to Lockport where he fished from the banks. Joe was also a member of the Winnipeg Grenadiers Band. Joe always enjoyed talking about music and the war, along with entertaining his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will be greatly missed. We will always love you Joe and remember all the good times. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 4, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Public viewing one hour prior to service at the Pilgrim Baptist Church, 41 Maple Street, with Reverend Joseph Kibwaa officiating.
