Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH CARLYLE COMBS Kenneth Carlyle Combs passed away March 4, 2007, at the Deloraine Health Centre at the age of 81. Ken was born February 26, 1926, in Deloraine and attended Thirlstane School. Ken's life was greatly influenced by his experiences as a young man. In 1951, he was diagnosed with TB and spent two years in the Ninette sanitarium. This was a life changing event for Ken and one he later described as the best experience of his life. Life in the sanitarium challenged and removed many prejudices as he shared an illness and living space with people from all races and walks of life. Ken held many jobs in his life. His last job as flagman for Nelson River Construction where he worked for 15 years led up to his retirement. Ken's leisure time was spent playing cribbage, gardening and growing prize winning roses. His two real passions in life were politics and horse racing. He regularly attended Assiniboia Downs and the Manitoba Great Western Harness Racing circuit. Ken was predeceased by his parents John and Nellie Combs; sister-in-law Margaret Combs; brother-in-law Al McKenzie; and brother Lloyd Combs. Left to keep his memory alive are his brother Herb Combs; sister Kathleen McKenzie; sister-in-law Isobel Combs; niece Alana McKenzie; nephews, Don, Brian and Scott McKenzie, Murray Clark and John Combs, along with all their families. A celebration of Ken's life was held March 10 at the Smith Funeral Home in Deloraine. Interment followed at the Deloraine-Winchester Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
