Edward George was born in Winnipeg on May 29, 1921 to Harold George and Mary (Cox) Anderson. Ted was the eldest of three children, who grew up and went to school in Stony Mountain, MB. In 1941, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and took training at the Dominion Provincial Vocational School on Henry Street and in St. Thomas, ON, to become an Aero Engine Mechanic, (a trade which served him well throughout his working life). He was posted to Dauphin from 1941 to 1943, then overseas to Yorkshire, England to the 1666 Conversion Unit. In September 1944, he traveled in a 30-ship convoy through the Suez Canal, down to Burma, (now Myanmar), and India, to the Canadian 436 Transport Squadron on Akyab Island, then to Ramree Island, aiding the British 14th Army in pushing the enemy out of the jungles. He returned home in November 1945, and in May 1946, began his 35 year career with T.C.A. later Air Canada , as a mechanic in Winnipeg. He married Norine Parker in July 1947 and raised two sons and two daughters, along with a number of well-loved animals...dogs, cats, turtles, birds, rabbits, etc! Ted and the family enjoyed traveling and camping every summer, managing to visit all 10 provinces and many of the United States. He and Mum made each trip a wonderful adventure and created many happy memories. In 1971 Air Canada transferred Ted (or Andy to his co-workers) to Montreal for the last 10 years of his career. His three youngest children went along on this adventure, and really enjoyed their years there. It allowed them to explore the Eastern part of the country and make lasting good friends. He finished as an Inspector and upon retirement, returned to Winnipeg. Ted enjoyed cooking and was very good at it. He was also a champion Bridge player and an excellent curler! He and Mum also loved working the Jumble in the daily paper. He was a member of Valour Road Legion and also of St. Vital United Church. Ted liked to tinker with things, and was our favourite Mr. Fix-It . We will all miss him so much and keep him in our hearts always. There are so many people we want to thank on Ted's behalf, for all their help, prayers, love and concern, beginning with our doctor, Dr. Roy Smith. Also Dr. Heyday and Dr. Tanner. Our Chiropractor, Dr. Dan Schaeffer, who helped make Ted more comfortable in his last days. Thanks also to the dear nurses in the clinic at Lions' Place as well as all the staff at Lions' Place, including the dining room. The wonderful help of the Palliative Care team, even in the middle of the night, helped us all. We needed them all, and they were there for us. A funeral service will be held for Ted at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., on Tuesday, June 5 at 2:00 p.m. and will be conducted by Rev. Russell Wardell of St. Mary's Road United Church. Flowers gratefully declined. Ted asked that donations be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, CancerCare Manitoba or the C.N.I.B. Friends and family are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at www.glenlawn.ca. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
