Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETRONELLA MARIE (ELLY) TORGERSON (nee KRULDER) It is with great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our mother and Oma on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 89 years. Left to mourn her passing are her four children, Anna-Maria (Eldon) Faullus, Frances (Orval) Everett, Marjorie (Len) Sarna, Richard (Pam) Torgerson and her eight grandchildren, David, Rachelle (Chad), Anna-Maria, Tara, Coby (Crystal), Tia, Alyssa, Katie; tow great-grandsons, Deighton and Bennett. In the Netherlands, two Dominican sisters, Miek and Floor; sister-in-law Joop Krulder, Annette and Cor Hart; cousins, numerous nieces, nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Miesje and Jane; brother Jaap and infant son. Mom (Oma) was born March 15, 1918 in Rotterdam, Holland where she went into her life-long career of Nursing, with a year of Respiratory study. It was during the Second World War where she was heavily involved in the Dutch Underground using her bravery and skills in saving the lives of many Jews. It was during this time that she met her future Canadian soldier husband Amos and became a Dutch war-bride. From this union, five children were born. Leaving her beloved homeland, Mom travelled to Saskatchewan and endured many prairie life hardships. They settled in Winnipeg where she pursued her career of Nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital, Central TB Clinic which later became the DA Stewart Centre and the Respiratory Centre. She was the neighbourhood nurse. She completed her career at the Municipal Hospitals and maintained a fully active life with her family and friends. Mom was truly a gifted mother and grandmother bountifully generous with her time, talents (including knitting and crocheting), energy, home and love not only with family but with all whom her life touched. She will be remembered for her extraordinary sense of humour, practical common sense and her shrewd thriftiness. Our heartfelt thanks for the compassionate care from the Staff at the Concordia Hospital. Prayers will be held Tuesday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St and Mass of the Resurrection will be Wednesday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 168 Worth St. Cremation and private family interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church.
