Born: Jun 10, 1923
Date of Passing: Jun 01, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH OLGA PENHALL Peacefully, and surrounded by love, Elizabeth (Betty) Penhall took her final journey to be with God on June 1, 2007. Betty was born on June 10, 1923, in Overstoneville and spent most of her life living in Winnipeg and Petersfield. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, John and Mary Nedohin; her step-father John Urbanowski; her treasured husband Sidney; brothers, Steven, Bill, Milton, and Bert; sisters, Pollyanne, Julia, Fanny, Annie, Neta, Lena, and Kathleen, and grandson Luke. She is survived and forever loved by her children, Wayne (Chris), Merritt (Kathy) and Gale; brother Donald Nedohin (Geraldine); sister-in-law Gladys Tarala (Eddy), and brother-in-law Douglas Penhall (Francis). She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Sean, Kristen, Colleen, Julie, and Leah; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Amber, Colin, and Ashley, and by many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends. Mom had a very rich heritage. Her immigrant family traveled from the Ukraine and were original settlers in southern Manitoba in 1896. Her memories of growing up in such a large family on the farm in the 1920s and 1930s, created many fascinating hours of stories for the family. The joys and hardships of her childhood, and a deep admiration for her mother, resulted in strong personal values, and she conducted her life with grace, generosity, and love. Mom's family, both intimate and extended, was the most important part of her life. Her welcoming manner and her enjoyment of spending time with others, meant that her home was always filled with people, laughter, and good times, and her phone was always busy. Mom's strong and enduring faith allowed her to deal with many life challenges with a deep and unwavering trust that all would be taken care of in the way that it was meant to be. She was one of the founding members of the St. Vital Baptist Church. Mom was awed by the wonders of nature, frequently noticing small details that escaped most others, and never hesitating to share her observations. This appreciation was evident in her love of oil painting. Mom enjoyed good music and dancing - she knew all the words to the old songs and hymns. She gave a lot of herself to others through tireless hours of volunteer work, and endless love and support to her family and friends when needed. She enjoyed being a member of the Daughters of the Nile, and the many friendships that she developed through that experience. The family is indebted to Doug and Fran, and Gladys and Eddy for all their love and support, especially when Mom lived in her apartment. You were always there when Mom needed your help, and we couldn't have done it without you. The family is also deeply grateful to Dr. Maharaj and the wonderful and dedicated staff at Heritage Lodge. We couldn't have asked for better care. Mom loved you all as much as you loved her, and she valued her many friends there. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Flowers are gratefully declined. Charitable donations can be made to the Arthritis Society, or to a charity of your choice. THOMSON IN THE PARK Funeral Home Cemetery www.thomsoninthepark.com 925-1120
