WALTER HARRY PETERS June 26, 1933 - June 3, 2007 After a lengthy battle with cancer, Walter passed away at Stonewall Hospital with Gertie and his son at his side. His suffering has ended and he is now at peace. He leaves to mourn his wife Gertie; his sons, Gary, Ron (Carol), Jim (Carla); and five grandchildren, Darwin, Darnell, Vienna, Katia and Aiden. Also mourning his death are his siblings, Heinz (Ellie), Willie, Kurt and Erika (Heiner) Moeller; and many extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter June Diane (1972), his father Rudolf (1982) and his mother Ida (1986). Walter was born in East Prussia on June 26, 1933, and enjoyed a carefree youth until he was separated from his family during the war. He was eventually reunited with them and lived in Northern Germany until he was 21. Walter immigrated to Canada in 1954 where he became an auto mechanic. He met his dear wife Gertie (Meier) in Stonewall and was married on May 16, 1959. They moved to Balmoral where he owned and operated the garage and raised his family. He had a true love of music and often played his accordion at family gatherings. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. His hobbies also included flying his airplane and fixing everything and anything. In his last years, he enjoyed many hours of learning and corresponding on the computer. We will miss his fighting spirit, his positive outlook on life and the soft, sensitive side he often showed, especially when with his grandchildren. Prayers will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 315 Second Avenue East, Stonewall, on Wednesday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment to follow in the family plot at Stonewall Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Southwest District Palliative Care, Inc. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
