HELEN WANDA KOZUBSKI (POLANSKI) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Helen Kozubski, on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Seven Oaks Hospital, peacefully, with her family by her side. Left to honour and cherish her memory are her daughter Donece (Stuart); son Thomas (Susie); sister Marie; grandchildren, Canaan and Thaddeus; and nephews and nieces, Douglas, Donald, Lonnie, Peter, Kenneth and Barbara. Helen was predeceased by her parents Antoni and Sophie; stepfather Antoni Mocha; sister Jean; brother George; and niece Elizabeth. Helen was born on April 25, 1923, in Koszlakach, Poland. The family moved to Canada in 1927. Helen attended Holy Ghost Parish School, and later transferred to King Edward. Her talents were many. She loved music and joined the Sokol Choir, conducted by P. T. Andree. She was a member of the Polish Folk Dancers, which was choreographed by Wanda Murray. She also played the mandolin. She had wonderful memories of her father, like bicycling to St. Norbert, where he kept honey bees. Antoni enlisted in the Canadian Army, dying in active service in 1943. Helen became the breadwinner of the family. She worked at MacDonald Aircraft in Rivercrest, building war planes. With the war over, she worked for the Unemployment Office. Helen always was proud of her work in these areas. Helen met Henry in 1946 and they were married in 1948. They started a new life together, bought a home and started a family. Helen took pleasure and pride in looking after her family and home. After her children started their careers, Helen began a new chapter in her life. She worked at Health Sciences until retiring in 1984. She travelled to see her grandchildren, became a member of a Polish dance group, bowled, and fulfilled her dream to see the Rose Bowl Parade. Her life continued in a different direction when she started to collect dolls with her sister-in-law Elsie. She loved going to the doll shows and sewing clothes for them. Mom was a wonderful seamstress, having made clothes for herself and her daughter. She enjoyed going to Falcon Lake with Thomas's mother-in-law Doreen Yarrow. Doreen introduced Mom to the seniors at Luther Church. She took the time to express her creative side, making many paintings and sewing. After she broke her hip, Helen still continued to get out and socialize, making new friends at Gwen Sector and Rosh Pina. When she could no longer cope being in her own home, she moved into Luther Home. Helen made many friends with staff and residents. She always enjoyed music and played the radio, listening to classical music. She will be remembered for her friendliness, kindness and many talents. We wish to thank the staff of Luther Home for their wonderful care and the staff at Seven Oaks Emergency who cared for Helen and our family with much kindness and concern. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Luther Home, 1080 Andrews Street, at 2:00 p.m. Service will terminate at the home. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations can be made to the Children's Hospital Research Foundation. Family Owned and Operated Knysh Funeral Chapel 582 - 0973
