MONSIGNOR LEONARD MORAND Monsignor Leonard A. Morand PA died peacefully at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on June 4, 2007, at the age of 77. He is survived by his brothers, Reverend Dr. Lionel Morand (Windsor, ON), Reverend Edward Morand (Windsor, ON), Reverend Daniel Morand (Windsor, ON), Most Reverend Blaise Morand (Prince Albert, SK), Reverend Dr. Patrick Morand (Winnipeg, MB), Paul (Penny) Morand of Tecumseh, ON; and by his sister Irene (Vella-Zarb), Tilbury, ON. He was predeceased by his father Edward (1973); his mother Rena Letourneau (1984); his sister Yvonne Cecile (1974) and infant brother Bernard (1930). He was born and raised in Tecumseh, ON; he attended Assumption College in Windsor, ON, and St. Peter's Seminary in London, ON. He was ordained by Most Rev. F. J. Klein at St. Paul's Cathedral in Saskatoon on May 26, 1956. He was honoured for his service with the title of Monsignor by Pope John Paul II in 1996. He celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination on May 26, 2006. Monsignor L. Morand has served the people of the diocese of Saskatoon through his priestly ministry. Parish appointments: Sts. Martyrs Canadiens, St. Gabriel (Biggar), St. Francis Xavier, St. Theresa (Rosetown), St. Ann's Home and St. Michael, St. Joseph (Kindersley), St. Philippe Neri (Vonda) and St. Denis (St. Denis), St. Anne (Delisle) and St. Francis Xavier (Vanscoy), Holy Family, St. Paul's Cathedral, Our Lady of Lourdes and most recently St. Philip Neri. His ministry included teaching at St. Paul's High School and Holy Cross High School, establishing the early learning centre at Guadalupe House, providing sacramental/faith development/family ministry at Guadalupe House, ministry to the deaf, hospital chaplain, participating and supporting young people by attending sports events, serving as diocesan administrator (1995-1996) and Vicar General. He also served on the Council of Priests, priests' personnel committee, the Diocesan Consultors and Bishops representative for Catholic School Trustees. He was a prayerful, dedicated and faithful servant of the Lord. The Vigil of Prayer will be held on Thursday, June 7, 7:30 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Church, 1904 Munroe Avenue, Saskatoon. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 8, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 3339 Centennial Drive, Saskatoon. Memorial donations may be made to Guadalupe Parish Ministry or to the education of Seminarians, both in care of the Diocese of Saskatoon, 100 - 5th Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2N7.
