Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHILIP SHUSTER May 7, 1920 - May 12, 2007 Philip Shuster of Beausejour passed away peacefully with family members by his side at the St. Boniface Hospital. Phil will be forever loved and remembered by his daughter Wendy (Alan Daien); grandchildren, Laurie and Jillian; sisters, Clara Buckwold, Anne (Alan Cooper) and Roslyn Silverman; brother-in-law Larry Birstein and sister-in-law Lorraine Martin; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. All who knew him, describe Phil as a kind and gentle man. Phil was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Pearl; his chosen daughters, Judy and Debbie; and his parents, Jenny and Abraham Shuster. Phil was born in Winnipeg and spent his early years in the Elmwood area. In his teens, he moved to Beausejour to join the family business. He spent the next 50 years operating his grocery stores with Pearl by his side for most of those years. Phil loved living in Beausejour. He was well known and well liked in the community. Customers were always met with a smile and a friendly greeting. He enjoyed his daily visits and great conversations with his coffee group. He was a charter member of the Beausejour Lions Club, a founding member of the Winnipeg branch of Compassionate Friends, a member of the Selkirk Duplicate Bridge Club and the Beausejour Bridge Club. He enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels which he continued doing until the age of 85. He truly was an amazing and devoted husband and father. During Pearl's illness, he was by her side day and night. They shared a love that we can only envy. Dad, I will miss our daily phone calls and all the special times we had together. Phil took special pride in his grandchildren, Laurie and Jillian. He enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could. He cherished being Zaida. His absolute highlights were the times he spent with them whether he was playing checkers and cards, watching dance recitals and sporting events, or sharing family dinners together. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Karen Humphreys and staff in Ward 5B at the St. Boniface Hospital. Service was held at Congregation Etz Chayim Synagogue officiated by Rabbi Henry Balser and Cantor Gerry Daien. Pallbearers were Alan Daien, Laurie Daien, Laurie Cooper, Leonard Hillyard, Howie Gilmore and Harry Schwartz. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Birstein and Steve Day. If desired, donations may be made in Phil's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Beausejour District Hospital or a charity of your choice. Dad, we miss you terribly but you are now with your sweetheart, Pearl.
