ANNIE NIZIOL (nee Smela) It is with deep sorrow that we, her family, announce the passing of our beloved mother, baba, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many, at the age of 85 years on Thursday, June 7, 2007. We have peace knowing that she is resting with her precious Saviour who took her away from all the pain and suffering to a better place with her predeceased loved ones. Mom (Annie) was predeceased by the love of her life, best friend and husband, John in August 1989 aged 72; oldest son Raymond, April 1987 aged 42; her beloved parents Angelina and Joseph Smela; brother Edward Smela; and in-laws Andrew and Josephine Niziol; along with sister and brother-in-laws, cousins, and friends. Left to mourn her passing are her remaining eight children, Diane (Eugene) Skoleski, Ken (Tannis) Niziol of Edmonton, Linda (Grant) Peshke of Calgary, John Niziol, June Hiebert, Jim Niziol, Tammy Dupuis (Lou) and Gwen Niziol. As well, her companion and dancing partner Walter. Mom's father entered Canada at a young age from Warsaw Poland, which he worked hard to make a good living and life for his wife and family. The homestead where Mom was born and grew up on was Willis Road in Middlechurch, West St. Paul, MB. Mom took pride in many things only to name a few. As a young woman she decided to venture out on her own and obtained a job shortly at the St. Boniface Hospital. She then met a young man at a dance whose name was John, whom she dated about a year, got married, and together they started the family Niziol Tree and raised nine children, where they lived in a large home which Dad built, farmed and lived on Red River Drive, St. Norbert, MB. To us children we felt rich, as we lived off the land, with mom doing her canning, raising chickens, and a few milking cows, as well as a very large garden. Mom stayed at home and raised the nine children which she loved very much. Life on the farm and large family kept everyone busy, especially mom. She loved to sew, cook, bake, especially those homemade cinnamon buns and bread. As the children got older Mom's adventure took her outside the home part-time at the Manitoba Hydro where she was a cook and baker, and 20 years later at the Victoria Hospital, where she retired at the age of 66. Mom and Dad loved to travel. Wonderful winter vacations with friends such as Hawaii, Mexico, Florida, Rio de Janeiro, Argentina, as well as visiting two of her children and grandchildren in Alberta. Her second greatest love, mom took up dancing, and went to many old time dances and festivals, such as the Ukraine and Morden Corn and Apple Festival to name a few. She always had great stories to tell, especially of young children playing the violin in bands. She treasured family, and was proud to see family playing together and enjoying themselves. The smile on her face, was priceless, and her love, kindness and giving was endless. Her legacy lives on through her treasured children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout Mom's life which she always said she could write a book, she had so many wonderful and interesting stories to tell about her life as a child, teenager, young woman, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and her love for life as a child growing up on a farm in Middlechurch, West St. Paul, MB. Love is very patient and kind, Never jealous or envious, Never boastful or proud, Never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way, It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges, And will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. There are three things that remain - faith, hope and love And the greatest of these is Love. To know mom was to love her. Prayers will be held on Sunday, June 10 at 8:00 p.m. in Thomson In The Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The funeral service will be held the following day on Monday, June 11 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 973 Red River Drive with Rev. Fr. Ceas Chmiel officiating. Interment to follow, after mass in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Ken Skoleski, Ron Peshke, Michael Niziol, Johnathon Niziol, Baxter Niziol, and Cody Dupuis who will carry their Baba to be laid to rest next to her husband (JaJa) John and son (uncle) Raymond.
