Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY WINARD FINDLAY (nee THOMAS) Peacefully after a long and happy life, Mary passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2007 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Mary was born in 1914 on the Isle of Wight, England to Arthur and Sadie Thomas. She grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she met her husband John. They were happily married for 60 years. They lived in Talara, Peru in South America for 12 years and then relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba residing in East Kildonan. For 18 winters they migrated south to McAllen Texas with many of their old friends. In 1983, Mary and John moved to Portage la Prairie to be closer to family. Mary was predeceased by John in 1997. She is survived by her daughter Gael Mercel and grandchildren, David (Bonnie) and Dawn (Gord); and daughter Karen (Terry) Rempel and grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) and Jillian (Ben). She loved her family and her great-grandchildren Ryan, Danielle, Kate, Rachel and Brody brought her great joy. For the last years of her life, Mary formed new friendships at Dalton Grove Estates. She was an avid bridge player and ensured there was a bridge club at Dalton Grove. In keeping with her wishes there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind), PO Box 32002 Stn BRM B, Toronto, ON M7Y 5R2 or 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3.
