GERALD RYAN LOEWEN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Gerald Ryan Loewen, on June 8, 2007 from pneumonia that was caused by his life-long condition. He was surrounded by family and friends until the end. He was predeceased by his mother Eleanor Kalata and his grandmother Lydia Staerk. Left to cherish his memory are his father John Loewen; brother Norman Loewen; his three daughters, Cheryl Loewen, Michelle Chartrand (David) and Jennifer Loewen; their mother Valerie Antonation; his two grandchildren Tyler and Emily Chartrand; his longtime friend Kojak, as well as relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Dad was born in Winnipeg on December 29, 1953 at the Grace Hospital. Days after birth, Dad faced his first challenge in life by surviving a life-saving surgery. Born without an esophagus, Dad was one of the first babies in Manitoba to undergo and survive this risky, unknown procedure. Although he was faced with many challenges throughout his life, he led a life as normal as he could. Dad had many fond memories of times spent in Whitemouth. His favorite pastimes were fishing, rebuilding his buddies' cars, and racing with his prized possession, his Dodge Dart Swinger. In later years he married, had three beautiful daughters his girls , became a Papa (Grandpa) to Tyler and Emily, all of whom he was very proud. He worked at various car dealerships in the city and in later years at Cantor's Meats, up until he suffered a stroke that left him unable to work. He spent his days watching his favorite programs, visiting friends at the legion, spending time with his Dad and brother, and phoning to check up on his girls. He was a great Dad and a loyal friend. No favor was too big to ask, if he was needed, he was there for you. We could always count on him. We would like to thank the staff at the hospital for all their efforts in his last days and especially to one of his nurses, Karen, who showed great compassion and respect to us all. Dad was a man of strength that many never knew. We love you Dad and you will always be in our thoughts. In lieu of flowers donations may made in Gerald' s name to the Children's Hospital Foundation, CE 501, 840 Sherbrook St, R3A 1S1 would be appreciated. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with interment to take place at a later date. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
