Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH JOHANNA STIRK December 10, 1910 - June 9, 2007 It is with sadness we announce that on Saturday, June 9, Mrs. Ruth Stirk passed into the loving hands of her Lord at the age of 96. Born Ruth Johanna Jaeschke in Bentschen, Germany (now Poland), on December 10, 1910, Ruth was educated in private schools and earned her Dr. phil. at the University of Breslau (now Wroclaw) in 1934. In 1935, she married Dr. Samuel Dickinson Stirk, a professor of English at the University of Breslau. They spent the war years in England, where their daughter Margaret Mary was born in 1945. In 1946, they immigrated to Winnipeg, where Professor Stirk taught German Language and Literature at the University of Manitoba and later became head of the German Department. Their son Frank Rudolf was born in 1949. Sam died in 1961 and Margaret died in 1964. Ruth worked for 14 years at the University of Manitoba Dafoe Library. She had been a member of St. George's Anglican Church in Crescentwood since 1953. Ruth had a keen interest in music, theatre and ballet. She is survived by Frank, daughter-in-law Shanda and granddaughters, Sarah and Christine in North Vancouver, BC. She also leaves behind two sisters and six nieces and nephews in Germany and Switzerland. Ruth's funeral will be held at St. George's Anglican Church, 168 Wilton Street, at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, the Rev. Donna Joy presiding. In lieu of flowers, please send a gift in Ruth's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
