Date of Passing: Jun 11, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON HARTE MACKENZIE It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father Gordon on June 11, 2007 at Gimli Hospital. Gordon was born in Margaret, Manitoba, later moving to Winnipeg where he was employed by the Canadian National Railway for over 40 years. During the Second World War, Gord served in the Royal Canadian Navy, a fact of which he was very proud. He continued to support the Royal Canadian Legion to this day. He married Sue in 1949 after which they settled in Winnipeg. The family enjoyed many summers and weekends at the cottage in Sandy Hook where Dad was always involved with various projects and the odd golf game with his many friends. In his spare time he was involved in a variety of activities including curling, bowling and golfing. Dad was also very much a part of the community in supporting the youth in sports as a hockey/baseball coach and as a baseball umpire. He was both a history and a sports buff, often memorizing a variety of facts which always made for interesting conversations. Gord truly enjoyed social times with family and friends and was a tremendous support to both of his daughters in all aspects of their lives. He will be remembered for his generosity, compassion, humour, love and unwavering support of family and friends. Gord was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Ethel May, daughter Linda, brother Don MacKenzie and sister Sis Audley; granddogs Skye, Beazer and Moocher. He is survived by daughters, Cheryl and Laurie (Dwayne), granddogs, Jake, Tilley and Spirit; and a grandhorse named Rub. We wish to extend a thank you to all of our Dad's friends who have supported our father and us throughout the years. Memorial service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home with reception to follow. Rev. Marc Whitehead officiating. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main St. 338-7111
