ANNE GITTINS 1918 - 2007 It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother on Sunday, June 10 at the St. Boniface Hospital. She passed away peacefully with her family around her. Anne was predeceased by her husband Stanley on June 27, 1992; parents Elizabeth and Edward Henderson; brothers, Andrew, William and Isaac; and her sister Elizabeth. Left to cherish her memory are sons, Richard (Joyce), David (Haldean); grandchildren, Scott (Adrienne) Kent (Linda), Christopher (Cheryl), Todd (Jodi) and Colleen; great-grandchildren, Brett, Cody, Chase, Merc, Elizabeth, Tejay and Matthew; her brother Jack (Helen) and family; nephew Bob Henderson; nieces, Gloria and Val of Whitemouth and Marilyn of Kenora and families. Anne was born on August 22, 1918, in Whitemouth on the Henderson family farm. She was schooled in Whitemouth where she met and married Stanley Gittins with his great sense of humour and her smiling back at him - they were a great team. She was his Anna. Her charming smile and stories of the past could only endear her to you. She truly loved her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She so enjoyed all their antics and listened intently to all their stories. Gramma taught them the gentle, tender side of life. When they were young it was the back rubs and drawing pictures on their backs until they fell asleep. So gentle was our Gramma. She always said never judge people unless you've walked in their shoes. The kettle always went on for tea as soon as you arrived in her kitchen. Nobody ever made a better cup of tea. A great English Tradition from her Cumbria, England, background. Her Hydro life with Stan took her to many areas of the province, from Winnipeg River to Grand Rapids to Gillam. Her early years were spent in Seven Sisters, raising her family, becoming a champion curler, and making lifelong friends. Her and Grandpa spent many hours in the raspberry patch at Grand Rapids so she could make her family great jams and jellies. Richard and David had the best mom ever. Nothing was too good for her sons. Her daughters-in-law, Joyce and Haldean, knew they were loved and the feeling was mutual. She was the glue that tied her family together. Forever the grand lady. Gramma loved her plants and flowers and won many prizes for her flowers. You will always be the most beautiful flower in our gardens, Mom. We'll love you forever. Your family. Pallbearers will be grandsons Scott, Kent, Chris, Todd; granddaughter Colleen Gittins; great-grandsons Brett and Cody; and honorary pallbearers Bob Henderson, Chase and Merc Gittins, Shawn Carson and Vanessa McLean. A viewing will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, on Thursday, June 14, 2007, at 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the St. Mary's Magdalene Anglican Church, 3 St. Vital Road, Winnipeg, MB, on Friday, June 15, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. The service will terminate at the church. A private interment at the Whitemouth Municipal Cemetery later in the day. If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Anne to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
