BURTON JAMES GROENING Following a lengthy illness it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Burton James Groening on June 10, 2007, at age 69. He is with his Lord whom he loved so much. Lovingly remembered by his wife Martha (nee Froese) of 47 and one-half years; sons, Grant, Calvin, Rodney and his spouse Evelyn; daughter Wanda Kolida and her husband David; grandson Dawson James Kolida; brothers, Albert (Lil) and Edwin (Alice); sisters, Linda (Wally) Jirgens and Margaret (Abe) Zacharias; sisters-in-law, Agatha Groening and Lilly Piper; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and lots of friends. Burton was predeceased by his daughter Audrey Joy in infancy in 1966; his parents Abram H. and Elizabeth (nee Paetkau); his brothers, Arnold and Elmer. Burton graduated from Steinbach Bible Institute in 1959. Burt was dedicated to his work as a printer for 37 years. He was a devoted husband and father. He was gifted in writing songs and sheet music, plus arranging the words and music for other people's songs. He played many instruments including bass fiddle, mandolin, and his favourite was guitar. He loved to sing with his wife and played in many country and bluegrass groups. He enjoyed taking vacations with Martha, and his dream came true when they went to Nashville's Grand Ole Opry. He was a genius playing chess, tough to beat at crokinole and extremely intelligent at solving puzzles and mathematical problems. He was a very patient, kind and gentle man. A celebration of Burton's life will be held on June 15, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, Highway No. 1 East at Navin Rd., with brother-in-law Jake Froese officiating. Thanks to the staff on CD 4 at Riverview Health Centre for their tender care of Burton. Cremation has taken place. As per Burton's wishes, donations may be made to: Campus Crusade for Christ, in care of Grant and Joyce Richison, Box 300, Vancouver, BC V6C 2X3, Account # 26848.
