SOPHIE SOLOMCHUK Peacefully on Monday, June 11, 2007, Sophie Solomchuk passed away at Park Manor Personal Care Home in Transcona. Sophie was predeceased by her parents, Nicolas and Anastasia; sisters, Elizabeth Payne, Mary Dennis (Phillip); brother Daniel (Mae), brother-in-law Bert Enefer, and nephew Robert. She is survived by sister Pearl Enefer, brother Edward (Esther) and brother-in-law Albert Payne. Auntie Sophie will also be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Sophie was born January 2, 1922 in Pine Ridge MB and was raised and lived in Transcona. Sophie worked for the federal government for 33 years, retiring in December 1978 to care for her father. Sophie loved to travel and toured all of Canada, most of the USA, parts of Europe and Jamaica on her own or with her friend Pat. While Sophie still lived on her own she would catch the bus almost everyday to go downtown, sometimes to have lunch with her friends, Marguerite, Marie and Clare, to get her hair done, or just to shop. Sophie always remembered the birthdays and anniversaries of her extended family. She enjoyed attending family celebrations and hearing about what was happening in our lives. The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at the Park Manor Personal Care Home for all the care and attention they gave to Sophie. She really enjoyed the people and activities. The family would also like to thank all of those who watched out for Sophie, the neighbours, bus drivers, sales staff, bank staff, and especially the staff and patrons at the Winona Restaurant (now Park Place). You are very special people. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. W., with Rev Carol Fletcher officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Sunnyside Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Sophie's memory to the Park Manor Personal Care Home, Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choice. Wheeler Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I just decided to look for Sophie online tonight, Feb. 15, 2014, and found out the news. Tears came to my eyes. I recall her coming to the salon Thursday mornings to get her hair done. I met her at Split Ends, Transcona, and when I left to move downtown she followed me. As most hairdressers have a Special relationship with their clients. Sophie and I had a very Special one. We would laugh ourselves silly. When I moved to Ottawa, Ontario, I really missed her and think of her often. I remember in the winter She would bring to the Salon The Best Perogies and Baking I have ever eaten to this date. Thanks Sophie. You are Truely missed. - Posted by: Chris Sansregret (Former Hairstylist at Sets on Fort St.) on: Feb 15, 2014
