CORRIE (DEGROOT) STELMACK Comforted by members of her family, Corrie (Kornelia) Stelmack passed away peacefully on June 9, 2007, at the Selkirk District General Hospital. Corrie leaves behind her daughter Colleen; son Larry; brother Alec DeGroot (Mary) of Sidney, BC; sisters-in-law, Helen (George), Dorothy (Robert Jr.) and Judy (Charlie) DeGroot; as well as many nieces and nephews. Corrie was predeceased by her husband Steve; her parents Mary and Robert DeGroot; sister Georgina Mann; and brothers, George, Robert Jr., Stanley (also Alma), Norman (also Edna) and Charlie DeGroot. Corrie was born July 7, 1922, in North Kildonan. After she married Steve on October 4, 1941, she spent the rest of her life surrounded by family. She once served as president of the North Kildonan Ladies Auxiliary, and she organized and coached the Rosewell School's girls softball team. Corrie had a delightful sense of humour, and family and friends took comfort in her incredible strength of character. She is well known for her wise advice and for serving a great cup of coffee. She loved growing gladiola, and spent countless hours on her needlework and word puzzles. She will be missed by so many people. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Selkirk District General Hospital and the Selkirk District homecare staff for their kind assistance. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street, with Fr. Owen Steeves officiating. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
