JACOBUS JOHANNES (JACK) VAN AERT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Van Aert on June 12, 2007. He was born December 20, 1928, in Princehage, the Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 where he met Mary in 1952. They married June 4, 1955. In 1956 they moved from Winnipeg to Red Lake, Ontario, where their four children were born. The family moved to Selkirk in 1964 where they made their home. Jack worked for many years at Selkirk Mental Health Centre and at Manitoba Hydro. After retirement in 1988, he and Mary joined Sunny Sam Trailer Club. Jack enjoyed fishing, was passionate about gardening, and his face lit up when his grandchildren or great-grandchildren visited. He will be missed by his wife Mary of 52 years; his daughter Marianne (Ernie); and his sons, Jim, Bill (Avril) and Rick (Celine); grandchildren, Christopher (Destiny), Nigel, Dana, Claire, Sara, Serena and Isaac; great-grandchildren, Ariana and Zachary. He is also survived by his brothers, Henry, Adrian (Rita), Cornelius (Ine) and George (Corrie); sister Cathy (Fred) Van Gompel; and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his friends in the Breakfast Club. He was predeceased by his parents Jacobus and Maria; his sister Jeanne Overwater on May 4, 2007; his brother-in-law George Overwater in 1998; and his nephew George Van Aert in 1987. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses on the medical ward at the Selkirk General Hospital for their kindness, support, compassionate care and to Red River Place for the care shown to Jack during his last months. Viewing will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Friday (today), June 15, 2007, with funeral to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB, with Msgr.
