MICHAEL LUCEK August 3, 1913 - June 13, 2007 Suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at his home near Beausejour, MB. Mike was called from us to move on to his new Heavenly home at the age of 94 years, to be with his wife Emily and daughter Ethel. Mike leaves to forever cherish his memory, grandson Sean Michaels (Joanne); sisters, Mary Larson, Eva Washnuk, Katie Kisiloski; brothers, John (Mary) and Peter (Eileen) Lucek and their families; brother-in-law Stanley Howard (Clara); and his dog Max. He was predeceased by his daughter Ethel in 1983; loving wife Emily in 2005; and two sisters, Sophie and Anne. Mike was born at home near Tyndall, MB, on August 3, 1913, the eldest son of Alexander and Jessie. He grew up and farmed in the Tyndall area until he married Emily and they began their married life on their own farm near Hazelglen. In 1974 they sold their farm and retired to a hobby farm near Ste. Anne. They landscaped a beautiful yard, with large flower and vegetable gardens. The rows of trees they planted down their long driveway can be seen from a mile away. In October 2002, Mike and Emily purchased a home near Beausejour to be closer to Sean and Joanne, where he lived happily right up until his demise. He was still gardening and his potatoes were already over a foot tall. He would go and check on them everyday with his golf cart. He always grew enough potatoes to last the whole winter. Mike enjoyed going hunting with his hunting buddies and loved going into the bush to cut firewood. From his early years, right up until this past year, there are pictures of Mike, in his trademark overalls, in front of a big pile of wood with a big smile on his face. Grandpa, we're going to miss you so much, you were a big part of our lives. A special thank you to Gladys (Corky) for all the help and friendship over the years and for being with Grandpa that fateful morning. Also to the ambulance attendants for their efforts and to Pastor Hugh Laidlaw for coming to the house. Thank you to Dr. Van Rensburg for his care and to the homecare workers, especially Dorothy. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. from Russell Funeral Home, Beausejour, MB, with cremation to follow. Reception will be held at the St. James Anglican Church, Beausejour, MB. VICHNAYA PAM YAT Russell Funeral Homes Ltd. Crematorium Beausejour, Manitoba are in care of arrangements.
