THOR GUTTORMSON Peacefully on Thursday, June 14, 2007, with his family at his side, Thor passed away at Betel Home in Selkirk. Thor was born at the family farm in Husavick on December 2, 1924. He was predeceased by his parents Oddur and Gudny (Nya); sister Bjorg (Bunny) Elliott; brother-in-law Arvid Elliott; niece Mavis Kolodie; sisters-in-law, Mabel Guttormson and Doreen Guttormson; nephews, Michael and Corey Guttormson; and special friend Noreen Isfeld. Thor is survived by his brothers, Herman (daughters, Jean and Ellen) of Saanich, BC, and Mike (daughters, Doris, Heather, Cindy and Irene) of Gimli; sisters, Agnes Lang (husband Bill; children, Verna, Stewart and Sylvia) of Erington, BC; Anna Forgey (husband Don; children, Sharon, Jimmy, Christine and Diane) of Las Vegas, NV; Lu Rebizant (husband Joe; children, Ken, Terry and Chris) of Malonton; and Diane Gard (husband Charlie; children, Shannon, Pam and Brad) of Fisher Branch; and many other relatives and friends. Thor ran a dairy farm with his father and brother Mike and later raised cattle. He had many interests in life including travelling, camping, golfing, reading, attending auction sales and yard sales. Thor's true passions were fishing and hunting, especially for moose, deer, caribou, elk and black bear. He enjoyed the company of Noreen's granddaughters, Erin and Jamie, taking them fishing and sharing his love of nature. Thor loved visiting with his nephews and nieces. Thor and Noreen spent many winters at Sleepy Valley Ranch in Mission, Texas, where they made many good friends. They shared a love for travel, going to The Pas, Churchill, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Alaska, Southern United States, Mexico and Grand Cayman Islands. As his health declined, Thor was hospitalized in Gimli and then moved to Betel Home in Selkirk. At Thor's request there will be no formal service. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place in Husavick Cemetery at a later date. Thank you to the staff at the Gimli Community Health Centre and Betel Home in Selkirk. If so desired, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or a charity of your choice. We will all miss Thor's teasing, laughter and big smile. Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
