HARRY LASKER It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Harry Lasker on May 31, 2007, with his family at his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Annette; his son Shane (Marilyn); grandchildren, Erica and Justin; his sister Rose Nemy; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Saul, of Los Angeles; and his sister Lil Shapiro, of Winnipeg. Harry was born in Old Kildonan in 1920 to Percy and Chana Lasker. He grew up on one of the pioneering family dairy farms in the area. He first worked in his father's company, P. Lasker Dairy, and then at Modern Dairies (later Beatrice Foods) for over 40 years. After retiring from the dairy industry, he worked as a Deputy Returning Officer in various Federal, Provincial and Civic elections until he was no longer able. Harry was an active hockey player in his youth, and also enjoyed bowling and curling. He was an avid fisherman and gardener, and in his later years, he spent many pleasurable hours zipping around West Kildonan in his motorized scooter. Harry was very handy around the house, and took great pride in being able to fix almost anything, using materials that most other people would throw away. During his lifetime, he was a member of both the Chevra Mishnayes and B'Nay Abraham synagogues. Harry's greatest sources of joy were the accomplishments of his family, especially his grandchildren. Whether it was a graduation, a curling bonspiel, a drama production, or a chess tournament, Zaida, as he loved to be called, supported everything that they did. His love, warmth and sense of humour will be sorely missed. Funeral services were held on June 1, 2007, at the Hebrew Sick Benefit Cemetery, with Rabbi P. Weizman officiating. Pallbearers were Sheldon Nemy, Lanny Silver, Sheldon Altman, Dr. Charles Rubin, Richard Altman and Avery Spigelman. The family would like to thank Dr. S. Koven for his many years of assistance with Dad's medical challenges. Thanks also to Deborah Davis of Congregation Etz Chayim. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
