Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDARRYL ARTHUR DACOMBE October 5, 1948 June 13, 2007 After a lengthy illness and with great courage and a strong faith in Jesus Christ, Darryl passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother Gerry; brothers, Ron (Lorraine) and Len (Janet); sister Lorraine (Al) Dewar; niece Chrissie (Jerry) Baker, and nephews, Jeremy (Cathy), Daniel (Sara), Allan, David, and Emmet. His father Ed predeceased him in 2001. Throughout his life he also had a close relationship with his cousins, Gail Osowski and Janet Chubb. Darryl was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Rivercrest. In 1953 he contracted Polio, an event that shaped the man he was to become; a trusted friend, a tireless volunteer and a dedicated and conscientious employee. He had many friends during his lifetime; three special ones were Moya Geddes, Phyllis Thomson, and Jackie Zonneveld. He willingly volunteered with Cub Scouts (25 years), Epilepsy and Seizure Association of Manitoba (Vice-President and Treasurer), and St John's Presbyterian Church (Board member and treasurer). He spent his working career at C.P.R. (16 years) and Princess Auto (nine years). In 1996, when diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, he accepted this news in his usual style with his biggest concern being its effect on mom and dad. He outlived initial predictions as a result of the dedicated and compassionate care of Dr. David Crawford, Dr. Paul Galbraith, and Dr. J. D. Lezack. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Cindy at the BiPap Clinic, Winnipeg Home Care staff, the Seven Oaks Oncology Clinic and to all of the staff in Emergency, I.C.U. and the various units on the 3rd and 5th floors of the Seven Oaks Hospital that Darryl called home over the past seven months. You provided excellent care and had Darryl's complete confidence, trust and appreciation. A celebration of Darryl's life will be held on Monday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman and will be conducted by Rev. Kevin McDonald and Rev. Ken Innes. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Ron, Len, Jeremy, Daniel, Allan, and David Dacombe, Al Dewar and Jerry Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be uncles Orval and Rod Beaudry, cousins Rod, Peter, and Chuck Scarlett, friends Corey Shnider, and Larry Sawa. In lieu of flowers, friends who so desire may make a donation to the Darryl Dacombe Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Epilepsy and Seizure Association of Manitoba (Darryl's favourite charity), 301 - 309 Hargrave St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2J8 or a charity of their choice.
