MICHAEL PENONZEK On Sunday, June 17, 2007 peacefully, and in the presence of his wife Anne, Michael Paul Penonzek entered into God's home at the age of 81 years. He was born in the Rossburn area January 11, 1926. He was the youngest son of Bert and Margaret and one of 10 children. He grew up and farmed in the Angusville and Lakedale district where he met the love of his life Anne Kostuik. He was married on October 12, 1950. They farmed together until 1954. The city life in Winnipeg beckoned them and together they operated a successful grocery store on Selkirk Avenue. During this time Mike also worked at the Eaton's Warehouse for a period of 34 years. He retired from Eaton's at the age of 62 years. Many of you will remember how much he enjoyed contributing to the St. Anne's Parish. How this is so fitting that his church also has the same name as his ever so dear wife, Anne. He so much enjoyed coming to mass here. He volunteered his time to work at Bingo. He did everything from painting to mowing grass. You could find him in the kitchen preparing for any function. He was an avid member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very proud to be made a Grand Knight. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Anne; son Mervin and wife Pat, and one grandson Jason; sisters, Helen Salyga, Bertha Pemachuk and brother-in-law Nick, Marion Tomchuk and brother-in-law Wally; brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Nydia Kostuik, Helen and Walter Choptuik, several nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Margaret; sisters, Lillian Ushey and Zelma Skabar (Eddie); brothers, John, Louis (Frances), Joe and Frank. Active Pallbearers: Greg Salyga, Randy Premachuk, Allen Penonzek, Rob Skabar, Rick Paradis and Scott Falloon. All those in attendance can consider themselves as honorary pallbearers. Prayers will be held at the Knysh Funeral Chapel at 7:30 p.m., 1020 Main St., Winnipeg, MB on June 20 and the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Anne's Parish, 455 Douglas Ave., Winnipeg, MB at 10:00 a.m. on June 21, 2007. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Anne's Parish Building Fund at the family's request.
