Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN WARNER Helen Warner, aged 80, passed away at Dauphin Regional Health Centre, Saturday, June 16, 2007. Helen was born and raised in Winnipeg, January 19, 1927. As a qualified teacher, Helen's first posting was in Alma, Manitoba teaching grades one through seven. On June 3, 1949, Helen married Fred Warner and subsequently raised three children: Wilfred, James and Margaret. Fred worked for C.N. Rail for over 40 years in the communities of Saskatoon, Humboldt, Regina, and subsequently retired in Dauphin. Throughout the years, Helen avidly pursued photography, travel and genealogy. Helen was also an active member in the Women's Movement in Manitoba. She was founder of the Parkland Status of Women; Co-founder of the Parkland Crisis Centre and member of the Manitoba Action Committee on the Status of Women for five years; volunteer for the Canadian Mental Health Association. She worked with the Alcoholism Foundation of Manitoba; was a board member of the Manitoba Human Rights Commission; served 12 years as the Director of the Dauphin Cooperative Association; was a board member of Services for Seniors for five years and received the Y.W.C.A. Woman of Distinction Award in 1999. In 2002, at age 75, Helen successfully completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Manitoba which was a life long dream. At her convocation, she received a standing ovation. Helen's most valued accomplishment was her family. Her influence as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was a cornerstone to our family's success. Helen was predeceased by her husband Fred on October 29, 2006, after 57 years of marriage; three daughters in infancy; her mother and father Margaret and Norman McGowan; sister Margaret Magill and husband James. Funeral services for Helen Warner will be held Friday, June 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Riverside Evergreen Chapel located on Riverside Road in Dauphin, Manitoba.
