DAVID WILFRED PEKARY June 27, 1926 May 13, 2007 Following a courageous and lengthy struggle with respiratory disease, Dave finally found peace, passing away with grace and dignity Sunday, May 13, 2007 at Victoria General Hospital. A devoted husband and loving father, Dave is survived by his wife Margaret; daughter Lynne (Wain) Sinclair of Anola; son David Pekary and wife Mary, and grandchildren, Madeline and James of Ottawa. He was predeceased by his brother Ralph. Dave lost both of his parents at an early age. Following a year of Engineering studies, he embarked on his life's adventures, working as a surveyor for Beaulieu Mines near Yellowknife, NT. His soulmate, Margaret, joined him soon after; they married and remained in Yellowknife for two years, returning to Winnipeg with baby Lynne. Ten years later, they were blessed with a son, David. Dave worked for Dominion Rubber/Uniroyal as a Sales Representative servicing the mining industry in Manitoba and North West Ontario. His business trips allowed him to once again enjoy the beauty of the rugged natural environment he had come to love in the Northwest Territories. Dave and his family resided in North Kildonan for 15 years during which time Dave served as both Councillor and Mayor; he helped to establish the first community club in North Kildonan. Dave and Marg later built a home in the rural area near Tyndal, where they resided with son David for 15 years. After 25 years with Uniroyal, Dave launched his own business, Apex Rubber, finally retiring ten years later in 1986. From 1967 to 1993, Dave and Marg travelled every winter, making many new friends and spent the latter years in Tucson, Arizona. Following three years in Comox, BC, they returned to Manitoba to reside in St. Vital; Prairie folks at heart. Dave was immensely proud of his children and their accomplishments, as well as those of his grandchildren. Those who knew him will remember his joie de vivre , his love of a spirited discussion, his keen intellect, and his sense of humour. In the hours before his death, he was smiling at some remembered whimsies. Dad was much loved and will be sadly missed. Dave's family wishes to thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care, with special thanks to nurses, Trevor and Karen and Dr. Wowk-Litner. A memorial reception will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 29 at Neil Bardal Inc. Cremation Services, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery.
