CLAIRE F. COCKERILL November 27, 1928 - June 20, 2007 With family at his side, Claire peacefully passed away at Boundary Trails Health Centre. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Elaine, of 53 years, his daughter Kathryn (Joel Moore), Allison and Michael and his son Scott (Christine) Scottie, Luke and Claire Elizabeth, and his sister-in-law Ruth Cockerill, brother-in-law Gerald (Jane) Meech, and many nieces and nephews. Claire was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Violet Cockerill, sisters, Violet (Dr. George) Raymond, Velma (Dr. Allan) McCulloch, Phyllis Cockerill, his twin brother Claude, his in-laws, Pearl and Weston Meech and his sister-in-law Phyllis Johnson. Claire was born in Teulon, MB and received his education in Gunton and at St. John's College. In 1957, Claire began his career as an insurance broker. In February 2007, 50 successful years in the business were celebrated. Trips to Europe, various U.S. cities and last year to Alaska were enjoyed with family and friends and we have many cherished memories of these journeys. Claire loved watching sports, especially curling, hockey, football and golf. An avid sportsman, Claire enjoyed competing in curling and golf. Claire was a member of Starbuck Masonic Lodge, Khartum Shrine (Vintage Car Unit), Sanford Royal Canadian Legion, Carman Golf Club and he was also a member of the Mandan Manor Inc. Family was most important to Claire. He loved his children and grandchildren and was very proud of their many accomplishments. From childhood, Claire always had a dog. His pets were a very important part of his life. There are many dog stories! Our family expresses our sincere thanks to the doctors and staff for their care, concern and compassion shown to Claire. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in Claire's memory may be made to Sanford United Church, Box 35, Sanford, MB R0G 2J0, or to a charity of choice. According to Claire's wishes, cremation has taken place. A family graveside service will be held on Monday, June 25, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Sanford Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, with Rev. Cathy Maxwell officiating. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
