Date of Passing: Jun 21, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNIE LOEWEN Annie Loewen, aged 80, passed away on June 21, 2007. She was born on October 3, 1926, in the village of Romanovka, Ignatyevo Colony, Russia. Two weeks later she and her family emigrated, finally settling in southern Manitoba. She was the fifth child of Daniel and Anna Hildebrand who farmed in the Niverville and Tourond areas while Annie was growing up. Annie's schooling led her to the town of Steinbach, where she met her first and only love, Cornie (C. P.) Loewen. Prior to her marriage, Annie earned her LPN designation and worked at the old Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg. She and Cornie married in 1946. They raised six children, Paul (Mary) Loewen, Che Anne Loewen, Charles Loewen (fiance Karen), Stuart Loewen, Clyde (Terry) Loewen and John (Joy) Loewen, all of whom survive her. Grandchildren who also survive her are Andrea (Genico) Aiello, Cory (Stephanie) Loewen, Julie (Wade) Nybakken, Chris (Donna) Loewen, Carey Loewen, Chad (Heather) Loewen, Valerie Loewen, Nicholas Loewen, Rachel Loewen, Jonathan Loewen, Matthew Loewen, Lia Loewen and Samuel Loewen. She is also survived by one great-grandchild, Elijah C. P. Loewen. She was predeceased by her husband, Cornie, in 1985 and a great-grandchild Sarah Nybakken, in 2006. She loved children and was passionate about providing a warm and secure home for her family. She toiled long and hard to ensure everyone's development, well-being and success. Her Christian faith was important to her, and she and Cornie were deeply involved in the life and mission of their church community. Annie's numerous interests resulted in collections of many kinds. She was especially expert in collecting china sets, which she proudly displayed in several cabinets around her home. Dogs, cats, dolls, libraries, feathers, rocks, leafs, fans, coins, quilts and many more items of her everyday life were part of her world of mini-museums. She always seemed to be the first person to seek out exceptional beauty in her immediate surroundings. She will be remembered for the afghans which number well over 100 and were all given away to delighted family members and friends. One of her fondest delights was to make sure that her park-like acreage was well-groomed for the many couples who chose this setting for their wedding photographs. She asked nothing in return, save a picture of the wedding party. Finally, she will be remembered for many kind acts of generosity to those in her world who were truly needy. Special thanks to those who cared for her so well these past number of years, notably Dr. Krahn and the public nursing staff at her home and Bethesda Place in Steinbach. Most notably, the family gives thanks to Rose Delorme and her team of caregivers who have cared for Annie. They have shown her the deepest love and respect for well over 10 years. The family salutes your exceptional service to our mother. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church, 422 Main Street, Steinbach, with interment in the Steinbach Cemetery. Viewing prior to the service. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg 339-5555
