JOHN GULCHAK 1917 - 2007 Peacefully on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Maples Personal Care Home, surrounded by his devoted wife Josephine and children, John passed away at the age of 90. Left to cherish his beautiful memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Josephine; his children of whom he was so proud, Don (Brenda), Sylvia (George) Gaba; grandchildren, Daniel (Tanya) of Phoenix, Tanya (Cory) Kohut, Lorissa (Jarrett) Dong of Calgary, Sharon (Vince) Salemi; great-grandchildren, Talia, Breanne, Kalena and Ethan whom he loved very much. Also a special member of the family, Roseann Despatis of Edmonton. John is also survived by his sister Anne Woytowich of Sandy Lake; brother Mike (Louise) Gray, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Mary; infant sister Olga, and brother-in-law Peter Woytowich. John was born May 24, 1917 in Sandy Lake, Manitoba. He spent his childhood on the family farm and enlisted in the army during the war. Upon his return, he married Josephine Gnutel of Elphinstone on October 12, 1946. John moved his family to Winnipeg in 1956 where he was a barber for over 30 years. John was a dedicated family man and enjoyed many years of camping, fishing and boating with his family. After retirement in 1987, John became an active member and held many positions with New Horizon's Seniors Group and the Men's Club at the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church. Family meant everything to Dad, we were always placed first. Gedo loved his grandchildren dearly and encouraged them to always excel at whatever they pursued. His strong faith in God and good work ethic has been a positive influence on the family. Deepest gratitude to staff of Maples Personal Care Home for the excellent care. Pallbearers are Nick Woytowich, Wayne Woytowich, David Gnutel, Donald Gnutel, Michael Gnutel, and Jerald Kulbaba. Prayers will be held Friday, June 29, 2007, 7:00 p.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Avenue, Winnipeg. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 30, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Chapel. Interment to follow. Rev. V. Bashutsky and Rev. M. Gnutel officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or a charity of your choice.
