LLOYD BARCLAY DOWSWELL Lloyd passed away peacefully, on June 15, 2007, in Ottawa. Lloyd had celebrated his 83rd birthday in May. Lloyd was born in Emerson, and after serving in the Navy on the Iroquois during the Second World War, he and his wife Isabel opened a bakery in Emerson. A few years later, Lloyd changed careers and joined the government. He worked with the Department of Customs and Immigration, working at the Emerson border. This was followed by over 30 years in the Foreign Service when he and his family lived in many different countries, always enjoying his work and had many great friends from many different parts of the world. Lloyd retired in Ottawa in 1990 where he truly enjoyed retirement and family. In 2006 Lloyd received a 60-year pin from The Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 77 in Emerson which he was very proud of. Lloyd was a dear father to Wallace (Michelle Frame), Ellen O'Dwyer (Bob Roach), Kirk (Sue) and Penny; cherished grandfather to Marisa, Rebecca, Brendan, Keir, Jamie and Max; great-grandfather to Erika and Ciaran; a very special friend and housekeeper Zenny; also sisters, Eleanor Albert, Phyllis Scott and Judy Gilchrist; and many loving relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed by all. Lloyd was predeceased by his loving wife Isabel Brownlee Wallace in 1983; his parents Ellen (Pow) and Harry Dowswell; stepmother Laura Dowswell; sister Iona; and brother Howard. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the United Church in Emerson. Interment will follow at the Emerson Cemetery.
