Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHEDY KATHERINE (ENNS) DURKSEN 1922 - 2007 Hedy Durksen passed away suddenly at the St. Boniface Hospital on Monday, June 25, 2007. She was 84. She leaves to mourn her children, Joanne (Marv) Thiessen, Paul (Cheryl) Durksen, Virginia (Tony Warren) Durksen, and Lois (Brian) McNaughton, and beloved grandchildren, Christy (Brian), Kathryn (Nolan), Graeme (Myra), Kevin, Carly, David, Tyler, and Matthew, as well as great-grandsons, Lucas and Logan. Hedy was predeceased by David, her husband of 46 years, and her sister Eva Stevinson. She also leaves to mourn her sisters, Olive (Len) Siemens and Ruth (Henry) Schmidt, and numerous nieces, nephews and Durksen relatives. Hedy was born on November 9, 1922 in Halbstadt, Ukraine, the daughter of Gerhard and Agatha (Peters) Enns. She came to Canada at a young age, settling first in Ontario and then in Southern Manitoba with her family. She attended school in Winnipeg and graduated from high school in Oakville. Hedy attended Success Business College and worked in an office until she married David in 1948 and embraced her role as wife and mother. Throughout her life, Hedy taught Sunday school, led community Bible studies, sponsored youth groups, and wrote about her experiences of blending faith and family life. Hedy enjoyed extensive travel with David to places such as Australia, Europe, Russia and throughout North America. In recent years, her travels included regular visits to Alberta, where three of her children, and many of her grandchildren, now live. A talented watercolour artist, Hedy was also an avid reader and daily crossword puzzle solver. The family wishes to thank the paramedics and medical personnel at the St. Boniface Hospital who cared for Hedy with compassion and dignity on the morning she died. Thanks also to Dr. Maureen McConnell for the years of care she provided Hedy. Those who wish may donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Family Life Network (Winnipeg). A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 29, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive, Winnipeg. Private interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2007 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Westwood Community Church. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 2146 Main Street 339-5555
