VICTORIA DOWHANIUK Peacefully on June 25, 2007 at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Victoria Dowhaniuk, aged 80 years of Ashern, MB, formerly of St. Martin, MB. Vicky was born and raised on the family farm in Gypsumville. She received her education at Byng School. After school she moved to Toronto, ON with her sisters, and it was there that she met and married John Laffradi. Shortly after his passing she moved back to the Gypsumville area to be near her parents, where she met and married Ted Dowhaniuk. Together they farmed and raised a family. She remained on the farm until moving to the Ashern Personal Care Home, where she resided until her passing. Some of her greatest pleasures were working on the farm with the animals and pets - especially the horses, gardening, flower planting, cooking, bowling, playing cards, watching baseball or nature, and most of all creating laughs for those all around her. It was her youthfulness and sense of humour that made her loved by people all ages, and many of her children's friends also became friends of hers. She always had a positive spirit, a smile, a giggle and a witty comment to share with those around her. Family was always her top priority. She kept in touch by phoning all of the family just to see how they were doing, flying out to meet her great-grandson or just spending time listening to hear what was going on in all of their lives. Even through her illness she still made numerous new friends and acquaintances, and continued to touch the lives of those around her in a positive way. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Glenn (Wynne) Olnick, John Laffradi (Mary), Debbie Sturgess, and Brian Dowhaniuk; five grandchildren, Adrienne (John) Kutchzchan, Virginia, John Jr. (Sheila), Nicholle and Lauren; one great-grandson Lucas; three sisters, Pauline Lund, Sally Sowden, Marie Stillie, as well as many extended family and friends. She was predeceased by both her parents, Stanislaw and Mary; husbands, Ted and John; sisters, Pearl and Betty; brothers, Fred, Ceasar, Stan, Alex and John; many extended family and friends whom she was blessed to have. Cremation has already taken place and at Vicky's request there will be no funeral service. A memorial service for immediate family will be held at a later date. We wish to thank all of those who have touched Mom's life throughout her years, as well as the staff at Ashern Personal Care Home and Ashern Hospital, the homecare workers who helped to care for her throughout the years of her illness, and thanks to everyone for the cards, flowers, phone calls and sympathies we have received through this difficult time. If friends so desire, donations in Victoria's memory may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, c/o Julie Bergner, Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0. Arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOMES LTD.
