Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAMOS FRANCIS DUNPHY August 2, 1927 - June 29, 2007 Peacefully, at the Lakeshore General Hospital, in Ashern, Manitoba, Amos Dunphy passed away with his wife, Cecilia, at his side. Amos was born in 1927 at Peakes, Prince Edward Island, the second of seven children, to the late Thomas and Margaret (Curran) Dunphy. He was educated at Peakes, P.E.I. For some time after finishing school, Amos lived on the family farm, helping his parents. He later moved to Hamilton, Ontario, where he worked for several years. He then joined his brother, John, in Boston, Massachusetts where he spent many years working in the carpentry trade, and later returning to Peakes. At this time, Amos met Cecilia M. Koch of Winnipeg, and they were later married on April 24, 1965 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Winnipeg. Officiating at the wedding was Father Peter Dunphy, brother of the groom. Amos and Cecilia lived in Peakes for some time, but chose to move to Winnipeg where he again worked in carpentry. Air Canada then beckoned, and Amos applied and was hired to work in Winnipeg. The job then took them to Montreal for a number of years, then back again to Winnipeg, where he continued to work for Air Canada until his retirement. In their spare time, Amos and Cecilia purchased property in the Ashern area where they built their dream home, spending their retirement here. Amos was adept at many works, and their property was always a pleasure to see, with trees, gardens, fruit trees, and yard all immaculate. Amos was a gentle and kind man, highly respected by all he met. He was active in his church, as well as aiding others. He spent several summers helping his brother-in-law, Joseph, on the hayfield, as well as at other works. His strong faith in God and his faithfulness in his daily prayers gave him courage and strength even as his health decreased, and he was so until the end. Amos is lovingly remembered by his wife Cecilia; also his brothers, Clair (Mary), Tom (Marion), Brendan (Phyllis), and Adeline Fisher, as well as the Koch families, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Amos was predeceased by his Father and Mother; his sister Sr. Janet, C.N.D.; his brother Monsignor Peter Dunphy; his brother John J. Dunphy, and Clair Fisher. Prayers will be offered at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 3, at 11 a.m., all at Holy Cross Church, Ashern, with Father Michael Raj officiating. Pallbearers will be Tom Dunphy, Joseph Koch, Brendan Dunphy, Willie Koch, Jim Stewart, and Ted Fuchs. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Steyn, and all the doctors and staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital for the excellent and loving care and support they gave Amos and family. Your kindness helped us through this difficult time. If friends and family so wish, donations may be made in Amos's memory to Holy Cross Church, Box 367, Ashern, Manitoba.
