Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySARA DUECK November 5, 1909 - June 28, 2007 Sara Dueck, age 97, completed her earthly journey on June 28, 2007 and took up her eternal residence in the presence of the Lord. Sara, the third of four children was born on November 5, 1909 in Wiesenfeld, South Russia and moved to Crimea when she was three years old. In 1925, at the age of 16 she immigrated to Canada, together with her family and settled in Altona, MB. The family later moved to Lena, MB where she married Jacob Wiebe in 1932. They farmed in the area until Jacob died in a farming accident in 1939 leaving Sara widowed with three small children. In 1940, Sara married Henry Dueck and moved to Newton, MB where they farmed for 33 years. In 1973 they retired and moved to their new home in Winnipeg. From 1990 -1994 they lived in a Donwood West condominium and then moved to the Donwood Manor EPH apartments in North Kildonan. Sara continued to live in this apartment after her husband's death in 1999 . She then moved into the Donwood Manor personal care home in 2005 where she lived her last years. Sara became a Christian at age 18, was baptized and joined the Lena Mennonite Brethren Church. Worship, prayer and Bible reading were important to her, evidenced by her reading through the Bible twelve times in her later years. The memory of how she trusted God for all her daily needs will continue to be a blessing for her family. Sara was predeceased by her first husband Jacob in 1939, and her second husband Henry of 59 years in 1999; son William (Bill) Dueck in 1992; grandson Josh Goossen in 2001; sister Mary and two brothers, John and Jake. Leaving to mourn, yet cherish her memory are her children, Sadie and Peter Klassen, Simcoe, ON, Bill's wife Vera Dueck, Winnipeg, Elfrieda and James Nikkel, Abbotsford, BC, Jake and Eleanor Dueck, Winnipeg, Esther and Jake Durksen, Winnipeg, Mary and Ted Goossen, Thompson, MB; 20 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 5, 11:00 a.m. at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue, with interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at 9:30 a.m., prior to the service. Viewing will be at Donwood Manor on Wednesday, July 4 at 7:00 p.m. The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Donwood Manor for the care and compassion shown to our mother, Sara Dueck. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Donwood Manor chaplaincy program, or to MBMS International to fund a church plant where Sara grew up in Crimea. Arrangements have been entrusted to Friends Funeral Services.
