Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLLOYD REGINALD BATCHELOR With his family by his side, Lloyd passed away on Friday, June 29, 2007, after suffering with Alzheimer's disease for several years. Lloyd was predeceased by his son David in 2005; his sister Dayle and brother Earl. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Audrey; his daughters, Patricia Kennedy and Noreen (Ken) Friesen; daughter-in-law Bonnie Batchelor; grandchildren, Eva Batchelor, Julie (Brian) Klim, Jeremy (Brenda) Friesen, Robin Friesen, Chase Friesen and Colston Friesen; as well as his great-grandchildren, Adriana, Amber, Elysse, Caitlyn, Jenna and Liam. He is also survived by his brothers, Vernon and Joe; and sisters, Dhori and Shelagh; and many nieces and nephews. Dad was born in 1922 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, at an early age. He attended Kelvin High School before he started working to help support his family. He left home during the war years and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served as a mechanic in southern Ontario. After the war, Dad married Audrey Eleanor Porter on August 7, 1947. He served as a Post Manager with the Hudson Bay Company in northern Manitoba and Ontario. He also served as a short wave radio communicator with Nor-Westo in Sioux Lookout and Kenora, Ontario. One of Dad's greatest accomplishments was to graduate from the University of Manitoba with an RIA degree in Accounting. He retired as the Treasurer from the Worker's Compensation Board in 1983. Dad's retirement days were filled with activities. He loved to curl, bowl and swim. He participated in the first Seniors Masters swimming meet in New Zealand. Dad and Mom bought a cottage at Laurentia Beach in the early 70s. He loved to work on the cottage, wind-surf, jog, visit with friends and family, and relax at the end of the day to watch the beautiful sunsets. In later years, Dad and Mom traveled to Florida for the winters. He loved the warmer weather, many walks on the beaches, and enjoyed playing shuffleboard with his neighbours. Dad and Mom moved to Richmond, BC, in 2001 but Dad missed Manitoba. As he was a prairie boy, they returned to Manitoba in 2004. The family is very grateful to Dad's caregivers at Deer Lodge Centre for making his final days as comfortable as possible, and for the compassionate care displayed to him in his seven months there. Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church, 778 Archibald St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. My Name is Norman Carter and my family were friends with the Batchelor family many years ago. My father, Robert Carter, who passed away in Jan. 2010 , had worked with Lloyd at the Hudson Bay Post in Northern Manitoba. My father spoke about how kindly he was treated by Lloyd and Audry during His time with the HBay Company in York Factory/Shamattawa. He always said he was treated like part of their family while he was up north. Years later our families became friends when we lived on Morley Ave. In Fort Rouge. My mom and dad had always spoken very fondly of Lloyd and Audrey and enjoyed visits with them. My brother, Brian, and I became good friends with David and we thoroughly enjoyed our times together at 170 Squadron Air Cadets on Friday evenings and other fun times we had together. I also remember how nice Noreen and Pat were to us, as my sister Marlene, was friends with them. I was reminiscing recently and just wanted to let Anyone who reads this to know how just wonderful the Batchelor family is and how glad that we had the opportunity to know them. This may be years late, but my sincere condolences to the Batchelor family on the passing of Lloyd and David. - Posted by: Norman Carter (Friend) on: May 03, 2020
