FREDERICK WILLIAM (RICK) HARCUS January 12, 1950 - July 1, 2007 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, peacefully at the Stonewall Hospital in the presence of family. He was predeceased by his father John in 1992 and his mother Ivy (Pulfer) in 1982. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Lorraine of 34 years; his son Brian; his daughter Christine Buchanan (Trevor); his dearest grandchildren, Daylen, Alexis, Brooklyn and Riley; his only brother Bob (Jean); his mother-in-law Erna Albrecht, three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and their spouses. Also left are many nieces and nephews. Rick was born at Mrs. Brown's Nursing Home in Stonewall. He attended Tecumseh and Stonewall schools. Following school he worked a short time with Water Resources before deciding that farming was his true passion. He worked alongside his father and big brother Bob. In 1970 he became a member of the Stonewall Rockwood Fire Department where he proudly served for 25 years. He was also an ambulance attendant for 12 years. Another accomplishment was being the co-founder of the Rockwood Marketing Club. On October 14, 1972 he wed Lorraine Albrecht and took over the family home that his father and mother built when they themselves were married. He spent all of his 57 years in that very home. It was often mentioned that he never got around to leaving home but he never felt he needed to find happiness anywhere else in the world. After the children were born he took it upon himself to teach them the love of the land, patience, respect, work ethics and to love spending time with those dearest to you. That's when the love of camping and fishing began. With each addition to the family foursome, be it Trevor or the grandkids, he became that much prouder. In preparation for semi-retirement he also resumed curling and skidooing. There will be a private interment. A Celebration of Rick's Life will be held on Thursday, July 5 at 11:30 a.m. at South Interlake Fifty-Five Plus, 5 Keith Cosens Dr., Stonewall. We, his family, find it hard to find the words to express our utmost appreciation to Dr. Pinnager of Stonewall Hospital, Dr. P. Harris of Grace Hospital and their caring, compassionate staff who tried so hard to make him smile, ease his mind and keep him comfortable during his courageous battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stonewall-Rockwood Fire Department, Stonewall Hospital or CancerCare, Grace Hospital. Till we meet again. Arrangements by MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall.
