DON STEEVES With his family at his side, Don passed away on July 1, 2007, after a two year battle with cancer. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 52 years, Verna; daughter Karen (Glen); sons, Brad (Kelly) and Todd. He will be dearly missed by grandchildren, Taylor (Shanna) and Laura McDonald; Scott Steeves and Keira Beveridge. He will also be missed by his brother Blair (Faye); sister Marilyn, and many nieces and nephews, especially niece Michelle who visited him many times in Texas. He was predeceased by his father Blair; mother Laura, and brother-in-law Mike. Don was born in Moncton, New Brunswick in 1933 and moved to Dauphin, Manitoba in 1957. He spent his working life with the Department of Highways, retiring in 1993. Don and Verna spent many happy winters in Westlaco, Texas, where Don worked diligently on perfecting his golf game. In his younger years Don played hockey and baseball in Dauphin, making many lifelong friendships. In the past few days, many people have commented that Don ran into someone he knew, no matter where he went. We know that wherever he is now, Don is with friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Chapel in Dauphin. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care he received from Dr. Michael Penrose, Dr. Tina Matheson, his chemotherapy nurses, Sharon and Debra, and the nursing staff at Dauphin Hospital. Thanks also to Dr. Chowdry and the nursing staff at the Cancer Clinic at Health Sciences Centre. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if friends and family wish, donations in Don's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
