FELIX (PHIL) SHEWCHUK Felix (Phil) Shewchuk, born in Arnes, MB passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy illness at the age of 77, in Bridgewater, NS on Sunday, July 1, 2007. As a young man Phil headed west to Alberta to seek his fortune, and returned home to Manitoba with a priceless treasure, his wife Nancy. They lived in Arnes where they farmed and Phil raised his beloved horses, along with a daughter, Sandra. The family moved to Winnipeg, as Phil pursued a career in construction and carpentry that took him to Gillam, MB where he worked on the Kettle Rapids Hydro Dam, and latterly at Standard Aero in Winnipeg. Phil retired from Standard Aero, and he and Nancy moved to Nova Scotia so that they could be closer to their daughter, son-in-law and grandson. Watching his grandson grow up into a young man was one of Phil's greatest joys. Phil is survived by his loving wife Nancy, who was also his primary caregiver throughout his illness; daughter Sandra Spriggs, son-in-law Arthur and grandson Alex, all of Nova Scotia; sister Elizabeth (Betty) Dzuba (Toronto); brother Peter (Gladys) of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Ollie, and aunts, Carrie Hillcoff (Winnipeg), Bernice Kissenko (Arborg) and many cousins, nieces and nephews from coast to coast. He was predeceased by his parents, Karl and Josie (Arnes), and his brother Paul (Winnipeg). Cremation has taken place, and funeral mass will be said on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Arnes, MB. The family would like to extend a note of appreciation to all who helped during this time, specifically Dr. Abriel of the Lunenburg Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Eddy Kinley of Halifax, the V.O.N. and homecare workers who all in their way helped Phil to celebrate each and every day of his life, and Patrick Sweeny, of Sweeny's Funeral Home in Bridgewater who helped us in his passing. On-line condolences can be placed at www.sweenysfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
