LESLIE JOHN BUSS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and dear friend, Leslie John Buss, aged 70, on June 26, 2007. He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his wife of 39 years, Olga; his son Richard; daughter Melanie Gupta and son-in-law Ravi; grandchildren, Shalynn and Jayden. He will also be missed by his extended family: Adele and Wilf Betts, Sophie and Len Spitznagel, Anne and Doug Liscum, Emil and Heather Zapotochny, Henry and Shelagh Lafreniere, Brad and Karen Mattern; as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Les was predeceased by his parents, Sara and John Buss. Les was born September 10, 1936, in Portage la Prairie, and spent most of his life in Selkirk. After graduating high school, he joined the Air Force and trained as a radar and electrical engineer. His life in the Air Force took him all over Canada, from Comox to the Maritimes. He met Olga on a blind date in 1967, and shortly thereafter, left the Air Force to marry her in 1968. He began working for the Manitoba Telephone System and the Manitoba Lotteries in communications electronics. He retired in 1993 and began to pursue his other interests. Les was a man of many passions. He loved music and played the steel guitar with the band Glen Frain and the Buckaroos' as well as for his family, friends and various engagements. He was an avid builder and woodworker, he designed and built his cottage in Silver Harbour, which he loved to spend his time at. He was a competitive curler on several teams, he represented the good people of Fort Garry's Legion #90 in the Legion Nationals many times. Other loves included reading, fishing, and serving his many loved ones with his gourmet cooking and homemade wine. Les was a great inspiration to us all. He was the man that everybody could count on and look up to, and lived his life by the Golden Rule. He always went the extra mile to help others and make them feel loved. He lived his life to the highest moral standard and strived to teach the same to his children and grandchildren. He was flawless in his positive attitude and lived each day to the fullest. Les maintained his positive outlook on life through his six-year battle with prostate cancer. Our gratitude goes out to Dr. Czaykowski, Dr. Butler and Dr. Liu and their nurses, Denise and Cathy for their compassionate care throughout Les's illness. Special thanks to Pastor Hughes and our family at Church of the Rock where the funeral was held on June 28, 2007. Finally, many thanks to Voyage Funeral Home for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to CancerCare Manitoba, care of Prostate Cancer Research.
