EDWIN SUTHERLAND Shaawani Mashkode Noodin (South Prairie Wind) February 7, 1926 - July 2, 2007 Peacefully on July 2, 2007, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Edwin Sutherland, aged 81 years, of the Lake Manitoba First Nation. After a lengthy illness, Dad left us to be with his Creator. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Rose (Tom), Wendy (Alfred), Sandra (Louis), Vivian (John), Roxie, Cindy (Brian), Lawrence (Barbara), John (Gina), Milton (Jo), Jamie (Shaunna); the children he raised, Claudia (Ollie), Linda, Leon (Shirley), John (Barbie), Ray (Rachel), Gordy (Melanie); along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Eileen; his parents George and Rebecca Sutherland; his children, Edwin Jr, and Beatrice; his sisters, Rose Anderson, Nancy Maytwayashing, Genevieve Sutherland; and his brothers, Lawrence Sutherland and James (Jimmy the Hawk) Sutherland. Dad was born and raised at Lake Manitoba First Nation. Throughout the years, starting at a young age, he worked at various jobs. He worked as a carpenter, farmer, commercial fisherman; he was a Band Councilor for Lake Manitoba, and he owned his own taxi business for a few years. Dad was well known as a stubborn, ambitious, hard-working, serious man. Wake services will begin on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at Cindy and Brian Swan's residence. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. in the Lake Manitoba School Gymnasium officiated by Denny Black. Interment to follow in the Lake Manitoba Reserve Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre extended care unit. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Thompson, Norman Richard, Sheldon Maytwayashing, Andrew Mousseau, Francis Campeau, and Walter Choken. Staff carrier will be Dwight Paul. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We, the family, would like to give our gratitude to the following people for the special, loving care for dad: the nurses and staff at Selkirk Mental Health Centre extended care unit, and the Selkirk District General Hospital, nurses Reena and Delphine at Lake Manitoba Health Centre, his favourite nurse Virginia Black, homecare workers Vernon Paul and Rochelle Mousseau, Lawrence Thompson and Donna Maytwayashing, Lake Manitoba First Nation Chief and Council and the community of Lake Manitoba First Nation. arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOMES LTD.
