Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUSSELL ROGER HARDER October 20, 1939 - July 4, 2007 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Russ Harder in the presence of his family at the Health Sciences Centre. He was predeceased by his mother Susan, his father Jake, and his brothers Donald and Archie. He will be forever missed by his wife Lorraine, and his children Trevor (Christine), Kristine (Todd), Tracy and Clayton, and his grandchildren Travis, Lindsay, Meghan, Laurel, Ryan and Wayne-Tyler. He will be greatly missed by his sister Lorna (Axel); brother Butch (Joyce), and his sisters-in-law Eva, Marlene (Dennis), and brothers-in-law Russell (Joyce), Melvin, and Calvin, as well as his many nieces and nephews. Russ was born near Lowe Farm, MB. He graduated from high school in Lowe Farm, and then obtained a Teacher's Certificate and Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba. Russ had a variety of occupations, including teaching, chemical analyst, auctioneering, and farming. Russ was an honest, hardworking person. Many people can attest that he had difficulty not telling what he believed to be the truth. He was a good listener, and he always found time to talk with you. He loved to solve problems. If you had a project to be figured out, he was the one to call for ideas. He had a great sense of humour; in even the most difficult situations, he could be counted on to make a joke. Over the years Russ struggled with his illnesses, preventing him from doing the things he loved, including curling, fishing, hunting with his friend Elmer, woodworking, escaping to the cabin, and working outdoors. Many enjoyable years were spent playing Santa Claus and volunteering at the local curling and community clubs. It was important to Russell to maintain a positive relationship with friends and family despite his health issues. The family thanks the staff of both the Health Sciences Centre GD6 unit and the Selkirk Hospital for the kindness and compassion you showed to Russell and his family. For those of you who loved, and laughed with Russ, funeral services will be held on Monday, July 9 at 1:30 p.m. at John Black Memorial United Church (898 Henderson Highway). In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Russ' name to a charity of choice or to the Arthritis Society (Suite 105 - 386 Broadway, Wininpeg, R3C 3R6), the Canadian Diabetes Association (200 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, R3C 0S6), or the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc. (1160 - 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, R3E 0V9).
