RUSSEL GEORGE KANE Russ passed away peacefully with family at his side on June 15, 2007, at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg. He was 86 years of age. Russ was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Kathleen (Kay) Kane in 1998. He is survived by his sons, Warren (Louise), Daniel (Linda), Robert (Clara), Ronald (Irene); his daughter Barbara (Walter); and grandchildren, Jeff (Shannon), Wes (Melanie), Christopher, Colleen, Daniel, Jason (Lindsey), Cheralyn, Tiffany (Chris), Kristin; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Ethan, Kira. Russ was born on December 13, 1920, in Vancouver, BC, and he was raised on a farm in Alberta. He joined the RCAF in l94l as a mechanic and soon became an officer and a pilot. He left the air force in 1945. After working at a variety of jobs including truck driver, salesman, and bus driver, he re-enlisted with the RCAF in 1951. He was involved in the training of NATO pilots and in 1958 he was stationed in Germany where he worked as an air traffic controller. Russ returned with his family to Canada in 1962 and eventually settled in Winnipeg, retiring from the air force in 1964. After retiring from the air force, Russ worked for Marshell Wells as a salesman and later he sold hospital supplies which led him to a partnership with Northland Health Care. Russ led a rich and interesting life. He will be missed by his family and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 10, 2007, at Ness Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Ness Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a donation in Russ's name can be made to the Deer Lodge Foundation, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
