JOHN BODNARCHUK
Date of Passing: Jul 02, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN BODNARCHUK After a very long and fruitful life, our father died suddenly on Monday, July 2, 2007 at age 95 years, and we will miss him. Remaining to forever cherish John's memory are his children Carol (Bill) Jones, David (Helen) Bodnarchuk, and Margaret Ohm; grandchildren, Neal (Wendy) Cowie, Rory Cowie, Will Jones, Susan (Rolly Farrant) Jones, Deryck (Jennifer) Bodnarchuk, Krista (Kelly) Gingrich, and John (Franca) Ohm; great-grandchildren, Brianne and Steven Cowie, Aiden and Daryn Farrant, and Jadyn Gingrich; brothers Nick, Roy (Helen), and Ron (Marie); sisters-and brother-in-law Helen Kelman, Catherine Thompson, Barbara Gordon and Jim Gordon; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and beloved wife Margaret (nee Gordon); daughter and son-in-law Jean and Ron Cowie; son Arthur; and granddaughter Jeri-Anne Jones; brothers Steve, Mike and infant Harry; brothers-in-law John Gordon, Art Ball, Stan Kelman, Stan Forbes, Donald Gordon; and sisters-in-law Mary Bodnarchuk, Olga Bodnarchuk, Jean Ball, Beryl Jamieson, Ella Forbes and Phyllis Gordon. John was born in Cooks Creek, MB, on September 26, 1911 to Korneliy Bodnarchuk and Katarzyna Tepilo. Pop was jolly, kind and generous. He was employed as a carpenter and welder, and retired as an auto mechanic from Base Maintenance Land at CFB Winnipeg. He played violin with The Harmony Four and Melody Makers for 75 years and was proud to say he played at many a relative's wedding and their special wedding anniversaries. Two unrelated couples, whose names he couldn't recall, invited him to play not only for their weddings, but also their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries. When he wasn't out on a gig , John could be found puttering in his garage, fixing all and sundry and producing wonderful things on his lathe and band saw. There were also many competitive cribbage games at 471 Albany St. and Sinawik Bay. John had the silliest sense of humour and was lots of fun to be around. He was a member of #4 Legion, 283 ANAF, and the Huntington Society. A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date; a notice will be published in the newspaper. The family very much appreciates the tender, loving care provided to our father by the staff at Rosewood Village these last two-and-a-half years. You are the best! John would be pleased if, in his memory, donations were made to the Huntington Society of Canada, 151 Frederick St., Ste. 400, Kitchener, ON, N2H 2M2, in honour of his beloved Mar, and Jeannie and Art.
