HELGA MAGNUSINA ISBISTER (nee MAGNUSSON) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother Helga Isbister. She passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on July 4, 2007, after a brief hospital stay. She will always be lovingly remembered by her sons Alan Crocker (Carol) and Grant Crocker (Fiona); grandchildren Jordan, Ryan, Katrina, Megan, Jenna and Alexandra; brother Gunni and sister Inga; Aunt Joey; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husbands Doug Crocker (1963) and Gary Isbister (1995); her parents Jon and Raenka; her siblings Steini, Albert, Rosa, Asta, Johannes, and Lillo. Helga Magnusina Magnusson was born on December 29, 1933, at home in Magnusville on a stormy winter day. She died 73 years later on a warm summer morning. Mother was raised and schooled in Hnausa. She left home to study and work in Winnipeg. On one of her visits home, she met dad who was an RCAF pilot stationed in Gimli. They were married in 1956 and were transferred to Montreal where their children were born. The family lived briefly in Toronto where she helped dad through his final battle with cancer. In summer of 1963 she returned home to Magnusville and shortly thereafter settled in Winnipeg. Here she worked and raised her family until moving to Saskatoon in 1968. She helped care for her sister Asta and her family during Asta's illness. She returned to Winnipeg in 1970. In 1991, she retired from Air Canada after 22 years of service. Mom enjoyed a peaceful and independent retirement. She enjoyed visiting family and friends at home and across Canada. Her evenings were not complete until she had talked to Gunni on the phone. Mom was a strong independent woman who faced many challenges in her life. She was not afraid to provide firm guidance when she felt it was warranted. She was a selfless and generous person who deeply cared for her extended family - willing to give her time to anyone that asked. Always worried about others, be careful was part of every goodbye. Thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Grace Hospital that cared for her during final hours and to those who have cared for her over the years. A memorial service is being planned for Sunday, August 5 in Hnausa. Details to be announced. For those who wish, a donation may be made in mom's memory to any Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice.
